Audax Rides 2011-12
Audax UK organises hundreds of rides throughout the UK. Although they focus on "long distance" rides, many are well within the capabilities of CTC riders. It is based on the original French organisation that started in 1920 (Wikipedia) and the aim is to provide long distance rides, some of which are challenging. But don't let that put you off! Most audax UK rides are well within the capabilities of the average CTC rider. Audax rides are not marshalled, but have a route-sheet so you know where to go and a Brevet card to record the ride through control points and information points. A typical 200Km (125 mile) ride will arrange refreshment stops at around the 50Km, 100Km and 150Km points. There will probably be one or more information points where you have to answer a question - just to prove you've been there. Audax rides are not races - there are min and max times for each point along the route and the max time typically allows for a fairly slow rate of 15 kph (~9mph). Finishing times are recorded, but not published. Essentially, they are well organised rides with no pretensions to racing.
The list below is focussed on Cornwall but also includes other South West events for those prepared to cross the Tamar.
