Ride the Equinox for ShelterBox

CTC Cornwall is organising six rides on the 21st of March to help cyclists leave the dark winter behind and to raise funds for the Helston based Charity, ShelterBox. Always at the forefront when disaster strikes, the work of this charity to provide shelter for the homeless people of Haiti, after the severe earthquake damage there, has been much in the news.

Choosing a ride

There are four trail rides starting from the Bike Barn at Elm Farm near Portreath and two road rides starting from Devoran Village Hall.

Read all about the rides here.

Navigation and Route Following

These rides are offered as route sheets for you to follow with route information in no less than four forms – we are spoiling you. There are concise instructions, a fuller form with more description, maps and .gpx files for use with navigation and mapping software on computers, smart phones and specialised navigation devices. We hope this will allow for good pre-ride planning, especially for riders who are not very experienced in following the Audax UK style of concise instructions. Your route sheets will be sent to you once you have registered.

Sponsorship or donation

If you can raise money for ShelterBox through sponsorship, you need to print out and fill in (PDF). You will need to bring your completed form to the ride for validation.

If you are unable to read PDF files on your computer, you need to download the free Adobe reader from the Adobe web site.

If you would rather make a donation, we are asking for a minimum of £10 for an individual rider or £15 for a family, paid at registration. If you start out with a sponsorship form, but find that getting pledges is proving tough, you can swap to a donation on the ride day.

We have a special payment form for this event so you can tell us what you are doing about the money and so that ShelterBox can claim gift aid on donations from UK taxpayers. This form is the other half of the over 18 entry forms. It also allows you to say if you want your route sheets sent by paper post or email.

Donation cheques should be payable to "ShelterBox" and sent with the forms to the address on the payment form, not straight to the charity.

All this money is going straight to ShelterBox with no deductions for expenses. As there is no separate entry fee, you will have to pay for any refreshments, except water. Devoran Scouts are donating profits to ShelterBox so everything you eat or drink will be in a very good cause.

Registration

It is a requirement of CTC (our national club) that each entrant under 18 years has a parental consent form completed, even those who ride as part of a family group. There are links to the appropriate forms from the ride descriptions.

So please fill in the appropriate CTC event entry form, (see the rides information page) for the ride you want for each rider, using the under 18 version for any riders that need it, and one copy of our payment form for each family entry. For individual entries just fill in the payment form beside your CTC entry form.

We would very much prefer to have registrations ahead of time because it will help with planning numbers for refreshments and save a lot of time at the start. It also means you can work out the route beforehand and perhaps transfer it to another form to suit you own needs. Lots of entries on the line can mean delays. However, we will not turn riders away unless numbers get so great that we have to limit entries for safety or road congestion reasons.

If you are unable to print the PDF files on your computer, just send a stamped self-addressed envelope to the address given on the payment form.

All the forms are accessible from the Rides Information page.
